General Questions
My pet is neutered. Can he/she be entered in the Specialty?
Neutered Buhunds may compete in all classes of the Specialty except Conformation.
Do I have to be a member of the NBCA to enter?|
You do not have to be a member of the NBCA to participate in the Specialty (of
course, we hope you will become a member, but it is not mandatory). But your
Buhund must have an AKC FSS number to enter.
What is the CGC test?
The CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certificate is designed to reward dogs who have
good manners at home and in the community. The CGC Program stresses
responsible pet ownership and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs that pass the
CGC test can get a certificate from the American Kennel Club. No prior training,
other than basic obedience training, is necessary – which means that most dogs go
home winners!
Herding Test Questions
What if my dog has never seen a sheep?
The Herding Capability Test is a test in which your dog either passes or fails. A
fail either means that your dog showed absolutely no interest in the sheep or was
too aggressive and had to be removed from the field. These situations rarely occur
with Buhunds. You must have a flat buckle collar (no choke or prong collars) and
a six foot lead for the herding tests.
What is a herding leg?
A leg is a test that accumulates to your dog achieving a title. There are usually two
or more legs in each category under different judges – two legs to get the HCT title
and two legs to get the JHD title. Your dog needs to have an HCT title before
going on to the JHD legs. If your dog has one leg of the HCT (perhaps last year at
the Specialty) then sign up for the second leg of the HCT and one leg of the JHD.
