Code of Ethics

If I breed my Norwegian Buhund, I will refuse to breed it to any Buhund of sub-standard quality, according to the breed standard. I further agree to refuse the sale of any Buhunds or their pups to pet shops, wholesalers or their intermediaries; and this statement will appear in a written agreement with owners who breed their Buhund to mine. I further agree not to breed any Buhund with any hereditary defects. This way we can control the quality of our breed.

The NBCA requires that breeders adhere to our code of ethics, and that their breeding animals have a current and acceptable ranking from OFA or PennHip (Fair or above), or FCI hip ranking of A or B; and CERF (passing, with E1-punctate cataracts acceptable) at two years of age. Animals should not be bred without acceptable rankings. CERF numbers must be issued within 12 months of breeding.

Disclaimer: The NBCA and its board cannot guarantee that any specific breeder will have the right animal for your breeding program, and you are therefore encouraged to personally check with breeders and examine individual animals to ensure that the dogs are appropriate for your program

Note: The NBCA is currently reviewing the Code of Ethics for clarity and specificity. An updated Code of Ethics will be posted in the near future.
